I've said it before and I will keep on saying it - I LOVE when a wedding day (or in this case, wedding weekend) represents the uniqueness of each couple. So, what do you get when two beautifully brilliant doctors come together as husband and wife? Well apparently you get a whole weekend of celebrating love with all your best friends and family!
Every element about this weekend was something special and significant to Koot & Helene-Marí. Apparently good coffee holds a close 2nd place to Helene-Marí when it comes to Koot's affections and so there was a barista on duty ALL weekend - he became everyone's best friend, obviously. I think he was busier than the barman!
Because the couple would be in Barcelona for their honeymoon and because they fell in love on the dance floor, guests were treated to some salsa lessons on the evening before the wedding. There was also beer and wine tasting, live music throughout the day and an ice cream station to name just a few more highlights of the weekend!
Of course, no celebration with loved ones is complete without a shared meal - or five! The entire weekend was a culinary feast! Brunch, treats and bubbly in the forest, buffet dinner, a midnight snack and a lazy breakfast of flapjacks to finish it off on Sunday morning.
The newlyweds had a very unique request for their wedding registry. Instead of gifts, guests were encouraged to sponsor an indigenous tree that will form part of the Platbos forest. It will be cared for and nurtured by the organization, and will be protected by the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry.
One of my favourite parts of this beautiful day I got to be part of was Koot's speech to his new bride, taken from The Little Prince:
"Who are you?" asked the little prince, and added, "You are very pretty to look at."
"I am a fox," the fox said.
"Come and play with me," proposed the little prince...
"I cannot play with you," the fox said. "I am not tamed."
"What does that mean--'tame'?"
"It is an act too often neglected," said the fox. "It means to establish ties."
"'To establish ties'?"
"Just that," said the fox. "To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you, I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world . . ."
"I am beginning to understand," said the little prince. "There is a flower . . . I think that she has tamed me . . ."
Koot & Helene-Marí, may you continue to celebrate love and each other every day of your marriage!
